Progetto KWALE DISTRICT EYE CENTRE (Kenja)
Da anni il Nostro Istituto:
- è fattivamente attivo in progetti di solidarietà che hanno coinvolto prima il Brasile, poi l'Albania.
- in molte classi vengono proposte e portate avanti adozioni a distanza
- molti studenti di molte classi e molti docenti si occupano con particolare attenzione di problematiche sociali legate anche al nostro territorio con attività di volontariato in tutti i campi
Lo scorso anno, grazie a contatti che alcuni nostri docenti hanno avuto con la scuola di subacquea SSI, abbiamo conosciuto l'attività del KWALE DISTRICT EYE CENTRE (KDEC) che potremmo definire una clinica oculistica da campo che lavora con pochi mezzi e pochi contributi per coprire le necessità di una zona che si estende da Mombasa fino ai confini della Tanzania
con 15 Euro si può pagare un intervento alla cataratta
con 250 se ne possono pagare 24
con circa 4 si pagano gli occhiali da vista
Da un anno circa stiamo raccogliendo occhiali da vista e da sole e tutto l'Istituto si è dato molto da fare.
Durante la recente festa di Natale docenti e studenti hanno organizzato uno stand-pesca ad offerta libera ed il ricavato è stato di €284.

Thank you very much for all your help. The input from SSI has been amazing.
Many people here cannot see but they often do not know that something can be done to help them see again. The commonest cause of this is cataract and it takes only a 15 minute operation to remove the cataract and insert an intraocular lens. The patient can see again the next morning and this is often the first time that they have seen in years. We have witnessed people greeting their grandchildren with wonder that they have grown up so much!
People here are very poor and often cannot afford to pay for their treatment. That is why we are a charitable institution and help and generosity such as that shown by you all makes such a difference to these peoples' lives,
